David Ebershoff – Vice President & Executive Editor

David Ebershoff is Vice President and Executive Editor of Hogarth and Random House. He’s edited a wide range of award-winning and bestselling authors, including winners of the Pulitzer Prize in fiction, history, and biography; a National Book Award in fiction; an Oprah Book Club selection; and more than twenty New York Times bestsellers. He’s edited novelists David Mitchell, Adam Johnson, Imbolo Mbue, Gary Shteyngart, Teju Cole, and Norman Mailer; and non-fiction writers Fredrik Logevall, David Kertzer, Diane Keaton, Shirin Ebadi, Naoki Higashida, Jean Stein, and Jane Jacobs. David’s own bestselling novels include The Danish Girl, which was adapted into an Oscar-winning film, and The 19th Wife, which was adapted for television.

Alexis Washam – Editorial Director

Alexis Washam began her publishing career at Penguin Books in 2004, where she worked with J.M. Coetzee, Rebecca Makkai, William Trevor, and Janice Y.K. Lee, among others. She moved to Crown in 2010, where she was an editor for two years before joining the team that launched Hogarth and continued to acquire both fiction and nonfiction for the Crown and Hogarth lists. In 2019 she was named Editorial Director of Hogarth. She has edited and published books by Sally Rooney, Han Kang, Eimear McBride, Melissa Broder, Herman Koch, Jennifer Clement, Namwali Serpell, Claire Adam, Jenni Fagan, and Mariana Enriquez. Her forthcoming projects include new books by Heidi Julavits, Alexandra Kleeman, Christine Smallwood, John Boyne, and Anthony Marra.

Parisa Ebrahimi – Senior Editor

Parisa Ebrahimi joined Hogarth from its sister imprint, Chatto & Windus in London, where she worked for ten years editing fiction, non-fiction, and an award-winning poetry list, with authors including Chloe Aridjis, Sarah Bakewell, Lauren Elkin and Danez Smith. In 2017, she moved to New York. Her authors at Hogarth include Lawrence Osborne, Fatima Farheen Mirza, Juliana Wang and Sanaë Lemoine, and forthcoming titles from Sarah Manguso, Anuk Arudpragasam, Lillian Fishman, Khashayar Joshua Khabushani and Mischa Berlinski.

Jillian Buckley – Associate Editor

Before joining Hogarth in 2016, Jillian was an assistant at The Clegg Agency, where she managed foreign rights and worked closely with Bill Clegg’s clients. Since moving to the publishing side, she has worked with a broad range of prizewinning and bestselling authors, including Michael Christie, Melissa Broder, Mariana Enriquez, Alexandra Kleeman, and Lawrence Osborne. Jillian is acquiring literary fiction and translation, particularly stories boldly experimenting with form and content, and fiction that centers and deepens issues of class, power, and the climate crisis. Originally from Ohio, she is now based in Brooklyn.

Darryl Oliver – Editorial Assistant

Darryl Oliver is an Editorial Assistant at both Hogarth and Random House. He’s worked on the latest books by award-winning and bestselling writers including Gary Shteyngart and Angie Kim, as well as debut authors such as Hafizah Geter and The New Yorker’s Vinson Cunningham. He’s interested in history, memoir, politics, literary fiction, historical fiction, and speculative fiction as he looks toward building a list of his own. He’s especially interested in publishing Black and/or diverse voices and stories. Prior to joining Random House, Darryl was an English teacher and freelance editor while completing his MA in the Humanities with an emphasis in history.

Andy Ward – Executive Vice President & Publisher

Andy has been at Random House since 2009, and before that, spent almost fifteen years as an editor in magazines — first at Esquire, and then at GQ. Among the books he has edited are When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi, Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders, Fleishman is in Trouble by Taffy Brodesser-Akner, Salt Sugar Fat by Michael Moss, Passing for Human by Liana Finck, The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg, Edison by Edmund Morris, and How Beautiful We Were by Imbolo Mbue.

Avideh Bashirrad – Vice President & Deputy Publisher

Avideh Bashirrad is VP, Deputy Publisher for Random House, One World, Dial Press, and Hogarth. She oversees publishing strategy and operations, working in tandem with an exceptional team of Editors, Marketers, and Publicists to launch and position books in the marketplace. Previously, Avideh worked in Marketing for fifteen years where she led campaigns for a range of bestselling authors like Laura Hillenbrand, Charles Duhigg, Curtis Sittenfeld, David Mitchell, and Elizabeth Strout.

Julie Cepler  VP, Director of Marketing

Julie Cepler is VP, Director of Marketing for the Hogarth, Crown, and Currency divisions of the Random House Publishing group. Julie has had the incredible opportunity to have worked at Penguin Random House for over fifteen years, driving marketing across a diverse list of literary fiction and major non-fiction with authors that include Sally Rooney, Namwali Serpell, Regina Porter, Anthony Marra, Fatima Farheen Mirza, Frances Mayes, Erik Larson, President Barack Obama, Susan Cain, Timothy Snyder, Ben Macintyre, Eddie Glaude, and Matthew McConaughey.

Melissa Esner  – Associate Director of Marketing

Melissa Esner is the Associate Director of Marketing for the Hogarth, Crown, and Currency divisions of the Random House Publishing Group. With over a dozen years in the industry, she has had the honor to work on an esteemed list of literary and non-fiction titles since joining Penguin Random House in 2017, including a wide range of books from prizewinning and bestselling authors Regina Porter, Christine Smallwood, Frances Mayes, Michael Christie, Howard Jacobson, Rachel Maddow, Michiko Kakutani, Eric Idle, Elizabeth Kolbert, and Brandi Carlile.

Rachel Rokicki – Publicity Director

Rachel Rokicki is the Director of Publicity for Hogarth. She also works on publicity campaigns across the Random House Publishing group. Rachel has worked at Basic Books, The Penguin Press, and then Crown, where she was the Publicity Director. She has worked on literary fiction and major non-fiction with authors that include Imbolo MbueSally Rooney, Salman Rushdie, Margaret Atwood, Anne Tyler, Anthony Marra, Frances Mayes, Bill Bryson, Fatima Farheen Mirza, Jo Nesbo, Eimear McBride, Namwali Serpell, Jia Tolentino, Michael Beschloss, Susan Cain, Sheri Fink, and Ron Chernow.
